NTD Shielding Newsletter: July 2026

NTD Shielding Services designs, manufactures and installs bespoke EMC chambers, antenna chambers, EMI chambers and Faraday cages, alongside a wide range of EMC and RF test and measurement equipment. This issue covers two recent upgrade projects on existing shielded facilities, new additions to our demo pool and a closer look at Pendulum Detectus EMC scanners.

Recent projects

Antenna chamber absorber upgrade

NTD has recently upgraded several antenna chambers for a leading defence and aerospace company.

Rather than a full refit, we proposed a cost-effective, targeted approach: replacing old, damaged carbon-based absorbers in the highest traffic areas, including the doors and surrounds and the floor, with new rubberised absorbers that are easier to handle and built for a longer service life.

Laboratory RF door replacement

NTD designed, manufactured and installed three sets of double RF doors for a world-renowned UK laboratory.

The laboratory’s shielded rooms had originally been installed by another supplier. We removed and disposed of the existing doors, then fitted new, purpose-built RF doors into the existing shields. The new doors interface seamlessly with the original installation, went in with minimal downtime and have significantly improved shielding integrity.

Whoever installed your shielded room or chamber, talk to us about repairs, upgrades and replacement components.

New additions to our demo pool

We are expanding the range of EMC test equipment you can evaluate before you buy. Recent additions include:

  • Pendulum Detectus SCN series near field scanner: EMC with scanning in 2D or 4D (3D movement plus probe rotation)
  • 3CTEST MAX30 ESD simulator: a high performance simulator with a maximum output of 30kV, for testing to IEC 61000-4-2 and ISO 10605.
  • Vectawave Class A RF power amplifiers: broadband amplifiers covering frequencies up to 6GHz, built for EMC immunity testing.

Featured manufacturer: Pendulum

Pendulum Detectus EMC scanners are pre-compliance tools for measuring and analysing electromagnetic interference during product development, when problems are quickest and least expensive to fix.

The scanners perform repeatable, high-resolution emission scanning, with optional immunity scanning, in steps down to 0.1mm. An optional capability even allows scanning inside an IC. With Pendulum near field probe kits, the frequency range is 3, 6 or 10GHz. The system itself has no built-in frequency limit, so the practical range is set by your spectrum analyser and probes.

Scans are controlled through Detectus Scanning Software (DSS), which manages the scan process, visualises and documents results and includes a driver library supporting hundreds of spectrum analysers. Scanners come in a range of sizes to suit different test objects, with scanning in with scanning in 2D or 4D (3D movement plus probe rotation).
